Head Football Coach

The Lutheran High School Association of St. Louis is seeking to hire a Head Football Coach at its Lutheran North Middle and High School campus.  Lutheran North is a diverse educational community whose unity is in Jesus Christ. About this position: 
  • This position could stand alone or may be combined with a teaching role if the candidate’s qualifications meet the school’s needs. 

Summary of Duties and Areas of Responsibilities:  

  • Model exemplary Christian discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
  • Is quick to willingly and intentionally share his or her Christian faith with others.
  • Work closely and harmoniously with the Athletics Director, school administration, athletic trainer, maintenance department, faculty and school staff, as well as with the other football coaches. 
  • Is exceptionally organized and well-versed in the various aspects of running an entire football program. 
  • “People person” who promotes a culture of respect and teamwork, and develops and maintains positive relationships with the entire school community and its stakeholders.
  • Coach participants individually and collectively in the skills necessary for excellent achievement (being challenging and uplifting as necessary.)
  • Actively engaged within the broader coaching community.  Attends coaching seminars, and workshops, and researches to stay current with the latest coaching strategies and improve coaching skills.
  • Willingly attends to the details necessary for success beyond the games. 
    • supervise the locker room and athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions (last to leave)
    • support positive classroom performance
    • maintain an accurate inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms
    • recommend new purchases as appropriate.
    • Nominate players for recognition during and at the end of the season
    • Participate in special activities including parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  • Organize an off-season training program
  • Establish a schedule for team camps and other summer activities in accordance with school and MSHSAA requirements.
  • Utilize social media to promote the team, school, and players in a positive Christian way.
  • Oversee each athlete’s behavior and academic success in the classroom and work with the Dean of Students and others to nurture our student-athletes.
  • Ensure accurate statistics are recorded to share with local media and interested college recruiters (updates school records annually).  
  • Encourage and assist interested student-athletes to find scholarships and programs to continue their education, and play college ball if desired.  
 
Qualifications:
  • Espouse and minister in accordance with the school’s philosophy of Christian education and the Lutheran church (LCMS).
  • Excited to share his or his faith and develop strong Christian relationships on and off the field
  • Excited to work in a diverse, urban setting 
  • Possesses a current teaching or substitute certificate with 60 or more college credits earned.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a head football coach at the high school/college level preferred
  • Possesses effective coaching techniques and skills, knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
  • Must pass background screening, including fingerprinting.
