Gary Mantei graduated from Lutheran High School North in 1973. During his time at North, he lettered in football and track, and played soccer and basketball. His favorite memory as a student at Lutheran North was his football team’s 6-2-1 record year (best in school history at the time). Sports were a big part of Gary’s life during his high school career. He credits his coaches, especially Jim Manion, for helping him develop his character and work ethic.
After high school, Gary attended Central Missouri State University. He began his professional career working in the printing and paper industry for five years before starting at CRH Transportation Inc. as a truck driver. Over the years, he worked his way up in the company to become the president/owner of CRH Transportation Inc. Today the company employs over 100 people and has 5 companies in the CRH Transportation Inc. corporate family.
Gary is a devoted husband and father whose love for his Lord is reflected in a lifetime of connections with Lutheran schools and churches across the Saint Louis area. In the past, he was a board member of the Lutheran High School Association of Saint Louis, chairman of the Lutheran High School Association Golf Benefit, as well as serving as an usher, basketball coach and a youth group leader at his church. In 2019, Gary was recognized for his accomplishments and dedicated service as he was inducted into the Crusader Hall of Honor at Lutheran North.
The Mantei family’s philanthropic nature is clearly visible in many different venues, including the athletic programs and the weight room at Lutheran North, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Folds of Honor, a charity that provides educational scholarships to children of fallen and disabled veterans. Gary and his wife, Mary Beth, also founded the Zachary Mantei Scholarship Fund at Salem, Affton in memory of their son who passed away in 2015. The Mantei family has demonstrated a lifetime passion for helping others.
Gary gives credit and thanks for his success in life to his parents, Marvin and Sue Mantei, for providing him with a Christian education, to Mary Beth for her love and support for the past 40 years, and to his many friends whom he formed a lifelong bond with during his high school years at Lutheran North.
A special friend of Lutheran North and of the Mantei family has established the Gary and Mary Beth Mantei Family Scholarship Fund that will support the students at Lutheran North Middle and High School for years to come. Every year, students will be awarded the Mantei Family Scholarship to help support their own high school career and build lifelong connections as part of the Crusader family.
Please consider supporting the Mantei family and friends, and Lutheran North in helping young men and women succeed by contributing to the Mantei Scholarship Fund.
