Carl Holschen dedicated most of his working career to Lutheran High School North. At Lutheran North, he served in many capacities, but Crusader students would remember him best as either their math teacher or football coach.
One of his colleagues described Carl in this way. “He is the consummate professional high school mathematics teacher. He loves kids (and they love him) and learning new techniques for his teaching. He is a life-long learner and teacher of mathematics. He takes incredible pride in working with the school mathematics team. They have won local, state, and regional honors in mathematics contests.”
Under Coach Holschen’s leadership as Defensive Coordinator and Line Coach, the Crusader Football team won five State Championships, and many conference and district championships. His ability to teach and touch the lives of young people in a most significant way was at the heart of the Crusader success on the field.
A number of years ago, Carl and his wife, Jean, with the support of their three daughters, Jolie (LN ’91), April (LN ’92), and Kelly (LN ’96), initiated the Dr. Carl and Jean Holschen Family Endowment Fund. Over the past years, this fund has provided financial support giving Crusader students the opportunity to attend Lutheran North, where they hear about Jesus every day and receive an excellent college-prep education.
The Holschen Family supports this fund with annual gifts and would like the annual endowed scholarship to have an even larger impact while benefiting more students. Dr. Carl Holschen has been a positive role model and mentor for numerous former students and athletes through his humanity, service, leadership, and commitment to Christian education. The Crusader community is asked to honor Dr. Carl Holschen’s life service to LHSN with additional donations to this named scholarship fund. Please consider a gift to honor Dr. Carl Holschen.
