Communications Specialist (part-time)

Position Summary:
The Communications Specialist at Lutheran Middle and High School will play a pivotal role in promoting the school's mission, values, and events through various communication channels. This part-time role requires a proactive and creative individual who can develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan for the school year. The successful candidate will be responsible for content creation, website maintenance, social media management, and strategic marketing efforts to engage students, parents, alumni, and the broader community.
 
Key Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation & Writing
  • Develop engaging and informative content for newsletters, press releases, website updates, and other school communications.
  • Ensure that all communications align with the school’s mission, values, and Christian identity.
  • Craft clear, persuasive, and mission-driven messages for both internal and external audiences.
2. Website Management
  • Maintain and update the school’s website to keep information current and relevant.
  • Work with web design tools and content management systems (CMS) to enhance site usability, accessibility, and visual appeal.
  • Develop strategies for showcasing the school's programs, events, and achievements online.
3. Social Media Marketing
  • Create and manage a social media calendar to promote school events, programs, and student achievements.
  • Develop compelling social media content that resonates with different audience segments, including students, parents, and alumni.
  • Monitor social media trends and metrics to increase engagement and reach.
4. Strategic Planning
  • Develop and implement an annual communications and marketing plan aligned with the school’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to identify key events, programs, and milestones for promotion throughout the year.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication strategies and adjust tactics as necessary to achieve desired results.
5. Community Engagement & Public Relations
  • Foster relationships with local media and community organizations to promote school news and events.
  • Work with school staff and parent groups to organize and publicize events that support the school's mission.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and external stakeholders to build positive relationships within the local community.
 
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in an educational or faith-based setting.
 
Skills:
  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in website content management systems and basic web design principles.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, trends, and analytics.
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.

Hours, Location and Compensation:
  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Location: An will be provided and onsite presence is required. Partial remote work is available as agreed upon.
  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience
