Four LN Athletes Named Best Football Players
Four Lutheran North athletes were named by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as the best football players in the metro area in the past ten years.
Anthony Virdure, LN '13, was recognized on the All-Decade Team for his performance as a wide receiver for the Crusaders. He led the area with 84 receptions for 1,691 yards and 19 touchdowns. Scored 22 total touchdowns as a senior. Made 77 tackles and five interceptions as a defensive back. Caught 48 passes for 884 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. An All-Metro first-team selection in basketball, Virdure went on to play basketball for Lincoln University, where he earned accolades for his scoring ability.
The 2017 All-Metro defensive player of the year, Ronnie Perkins, LN ‘18, was named to the Post-Dispatch All-Decade Defense Team. At 6-foot-2 and 260 pounds, Perkins dominated the filed with his size and speed. Perkins now plays for the University of Oklahoma, where he was named a freshman All-American by ESPN and has earned second-team All-Big XII honors.
Jack Buford, LN '19, was named to the Post-Dispatch's All-Decade Offensive Team. On offensive lineman, Buford helped Lutheran North with back-to-back state semifinal appearances. Buford now plays for the University of Missouri. He redshirted his freshman year.
Antonio Doyle, LN '20, also was named to the Post-Dispatch All-Decade Defense Team. Doyle finished his senior season with 73 tackles after sitting out the first four games of the season because of transferring from Hazelwood West. He is attending Texas A&M on a football scholarship.
